Aaliyah Chavez, the 19-year-old guard for Oklahoma Sooners women's basketball, recently took to social media to tease her own Nike Kobe 6 Protro. The popular basketball shoe features an asymmetric color scheme that references the colors of Mexico's flag.
Hailing from Lubbock, Texas, Chavez is proud of her Mexican heritage. Her teaser image on Instagram was accompanied by a "For the culture[!]" caption, acknowledging that the green, red, and white-colored Nike Basketball sneaker means something to a collective, not just her.
In life Kobe Bryant's relationship with Latino and Latino-Americans in Los Angeles was well-documented. His wife, Vanessa, is also of Mexican heritage by way of her mother. The connection between the country and its culture, Chavez, and the Nike Kobe signature line, then, runs deep.
Stay tuned for more details. Oklahoma Sooners women's basketball is currently in the NCAA's Sweet 16.
