OG Color-Blocking Lands on the "Iron Grey" Nike Air Max 90

The Nike Air Max 90 is inching closer to its 37th anniversary. Along the way, the model continues to surface in new color schemes, with some following the sneaker's original color-blocking.

Recently, the third-ever Air Max silhouette emerged in a "Light Smoke Grey/Iron Grey/Photon Dust/Sail" color scheme that could easily be mistaken for one of the runner's inaugural releases from 1990. The Swoosh, however, went down a much more colorful route for the AM90's debut lineup, famously using an "Infrared" tone (originally "Radiant Red") for the shoe's debut.

Close inspection of the grey-covered Air Max 90, however, reveals another difference between the modern style and similarly-executed pairs from more than 30 years ago. TPU panels along the tongue and at the spine don't feature the same molding found on standard editions of the Air Max silhouette. Instead, the "Iron Grey" offering sees plastic components with curved, wave-reminiscent lines. It's possible this detail is linked to a broader concept, but no news on this theory has been disclosed by the brand.
