BLACK COMME des GARÇONS Gives Nike's Notorious Air Force 1 Low A Fashionable Co-Sign
The Nike Air Force 1 Low has been delivering classic style since 1983. Over the last 42 years, Bruce Kilgore's design has been reimagined ad nauseam, distancing the silhouette from its performance basketball origins and cementing it as one of the most iconic footwear products in the lifestyle realm. Rei Kawakubo's BLACK COMME des GARÇONS imprint recently added another tally to these efforts, giving the model's notorious all-'Black' finish a fashion-forward co-sign.
It's been a running joke for ages that you need to be cautious of anyone seen wearing a 'Black-on-Black' pair of the Air Force 1 – especially if it's in "cooked" condition. BLACK CdG's update might get a pass, but it still exudes Black Air Force 1 Energy.
Prepped for spring, the newly-surfaced collaboration between Kawakubo's empire and the Swoosh falls in line with other recent linkups between the two. A high-quality leather build across the upper sets the stage for 'White' contrasting details along the profiles. Call outs to the black-obsessed arm of the COMME des GARÇONS network land in a mix of experimental and straightforward touches. 'Metallic Silver' lace dubraes often associated with the AF1's '07 iteration reprise their roles, while traditional Nike logos on the insole are accompanied by another nod to the Japanese institution.
