Nike has achieved an unrivaled era for the Nike Dunk, with literally every single release, be it SB or GR, a sell-out. To say thank you, the brand is issuing a very special Nike Dunk Low “City Market” AKA “Thank You For Caring” in January.
Though not technically a mismatched sneaker, it appears to be, with each unique panel offering up its own exclusive material — though it is mirrored on the other shoe. It is apparent that the pair has something to do with Nike’s creative hub, the Blue Ribbon Studio, with the wording splayed across the pair’s medial quarter, but as we dive deeper into the pair’s detail, we begin to uncover its connection with convenience store packaging — a theme seen recently on a slew of Asia-exclusive Air Max options.
Food guide tongue tags, race bag-like hessian mid panels, and multiple call-outs to food weights and faux brands ann feature across the sneaker, but it does pay homage to Nike’s history, too, with retro logos are sprinkled throughout. Above all that, we see the introduction of translucent plastics at the Swoosh and tongue, while laces and outsole akin to the recently-released “Lemon Wash” Dunk Low arrive in-line with Nike’s sustainability efforts. Completing the design is a set of graphic insoles that sport a retro-styled “Thank You For Caring” motif that matches its accompanying bodega-styled shopping bag.
Update 02.18.20 Nike has just unveiled a release date for the Nike Dunk Low “City Market” for March 4th, 2021. The pair will arrive in both Men’s and Toddler sizing on the day. Along with the SNKRS listing comes a full set of official images, too, so take a detailed look through the imagery here below, and if you’re planning on picking up a pair on the day, make sure you head to our dedicated Nike Release Dates Calendar to set yourself a reminder for the drop.
