In 2006, the doors of China’s first sneaker boutique, ACU, opened in conjunction with streetwear label CLOT. This provided customers in Shanghai access to Tier-0 products for the first time ever, and one of the first to do so was the ACU x CLOT x Nike Air Max 1 “Kiss of Death”. And in 2021, for its 15th anniversary, the sneaker will be making a return to retail — hopefully with a much wider release.

The design carries inspirations from both brands, which are reflected by Chinese medicinal forms specifically “Chi.” Amongst Chinese history, “Chi” is known as a spiritual energy that flows everywhere and most commonly relates to the human body and its connection with the universe. The sneaker has insoles that reflect pressure points, whilst the translucent outsole displays an image of the foot. The no-liner construction features a transparent toe-box, snakeskin swooshes, and tongue, where the ankle collar uses ostrich skin

The concept of a scroll in the special sneaker box with Chinese pins has made the sneaker even more unique. The special shoe packaging was inspired by the ancient medical texts’ box with Chinese seal stamped. On top of the box, renowned artist MC Yan completes it with graffiti spelling out the CLOT’s origin, Hong Kong.

Official images of the 2021 CLOT x Nike Air Max 1 “Kiss of Death” have landed ahead of their expected release during March’s Air Max Month celebration. Here, we get a detailed look at the pair’s key differences, including an inverted heel overlay, a new tumbled leather tongue (opposed to the OG’s snakeskin textured), and an overall more vibrant aesthetic. As of the time of publishing, a release date for the pair has not yet been revealed,

Clot has announced that the updated “Kiss of Death” Air Max 1 will release February 27th at JUICE locations worldwide, as well as special pop-up activations in Hong Kong (Fashion Walk), Shanghai (JUICE Julu Rd.), Taipei (JUICE Taipei), Taichung (JUICE Taichung), Guangzhou (Taikoo Hui), Shenzhen (MIxC World) and Chengdu (IFS). The shoe will also be available online on the JUICE App and JUICE ONLINE Mini Program. For JUICE STORE USA launch details, keep your eyes locked on the @juicestoreusa Instagram account. A wider Nike.com release has not yet been announced, but it is expected to arrive in March.
