The 2024 Lunar New Year collection has been the most extensive yet, with countless colorways from both Nike and their Jordan Brand subsidiary. Among the catalog, there have been a handful of Asian-exclusive releases; but none quite as striking as this new Air Force 1 Low.
This special edition is set to release on SNKRS in China on February 14th, coinciding with both Valentine’s Day and the Lunar New Year.
The shoe itself is a visual feast, marrying the traditional with the contemporary. It features a lavish golden silk fabric upper, richly adorned with metallic elements and intricate embroidery that encapsulates the Year Of The Dragon theme. The design isn't just surface deep – it wraps around the entire shoe, including the midsole, creating a 360-degree artwork. Underneath lies a classic cream-colored rubber outsole, grounding the design in Air Force 1 heritage.
The shoe is not just a fashion statement; it's a cultural narrative. It integrates significant Chinese characters and a pattern that symbolizes “dragon and phoenix present auspiciousness,” a nod to both the Lunar New Year and the day of love. The pattern is a tapestry of traditional Chinese symbols like peonies, goldfish, mandarin ducks, and bats, each representing prosperity and good fortune in love.
The Air Force 1 Low “Chinese New Year” is expected to be exclusive to the Greater China market, and will release in the region on February 14th, 2024.
