Air Jordan 4 Domination
Michael Jordan's fourth signature sneaker celebrated its 35th anniversary in 2024. As part of the occasion, Nike, Inc. released several styles of silhouette throughout the year – including the Air Jordan 4 'Military Blue,' 2024's most-wanted sneaker on an alias. Five other takes on Tinker Hatfield's iconic design rounded out the Top 10, showcasing just how popular the fourth Air Jordan continues to be. And the celebration isn't over yet: 2025 will see a retro of the beloved Air Jordan 4 'White Cement', as well as a follow-up to the Nike SB x AJ 4 'Pine Green' from 2023.
Asics Ascends to New Heights
Japanese juggernaut Asics has been delivering quality sportswear for over 70 years. Throughout 2024, the Asian company launched handfuls of exciting collaborations, which helped it see a 645% increase in sales growth from the previous year. The Asics GEL-1130 accounted for 57% of the brand's total sales, boasting a profit margin of 44%. The retro runner might share the spotlight with other designs from the archives in 2025, which longtime and new fans are sure to enjoy.
WNBA Stars Are Here to Stay
Whether or not you tune in to every WNBA game, it's likely the names Caitlin Clark, Angel Reese, and Sabrina Ionescu ring a bell. With interest in the women's game at an all-time high, it's no surprise that co-signs from these players have made select basketball sneakers popular. As the world awaits Reese's signature Reebok model, folks have enjoyed the Nike Sabrina line, which saw a 401% increase in sales growth over the last year. Expect more WNBA players to get their own signature sneakers and Player-Exclusives.
China’s Take on Basketball
NBA legends like Kobe Bryant and Derrick Rose proved just how popular basketball is across China over the last two decades. And while the game's presence continues to expand throughout the Asian country, homegrown companies like Li-Ning and ANTA look to keep growing beyond China's borders. Dwayne Wade's Way of Wade line with Li-Ning experienced the fourth most signature basketball shoe sales last year, despite the ex-Miami Heat star having retired in 2019. Kyrie Irving's long-awaited KAI 1 helped ANTA reach new audiences, who eagerly wait for a sequel.
The AE 1 Helps Adidas Basketball Find Footing
Anthony Edwards was meant to be a star. His Minnesota Timberwolves squad might be having some trouble figuring things out in the 2024-25 NBA season, but his AE 1 Signature Model continues to cruise comfortably since debuting in December 2023. Adidas Basketball has a lot of new performance and lifestyle products in the works for 2025, but Edwards' first silhouette is unlikely to go away anytime soon. Last year, it helped the Three Stripes' basketball division grow sales by 136% from the previous year, accounting for nearly half of the brand's basketball sales on GOAT.
