South Korea’s Kasina, the premier streetwear hub of the nation, will continue its partnership with the Swoosh into 2022, with the announcement of a new collaborative effort, the Kasina x Nike Air Max 1, for later this year.

The duo last linked up in 2020, when the retailers delivered two transit system-inspired entires of the Nike Dunk, but now they’ve got their eyes firmly focused on another Nike icon in the Air Max 1 — again in two colorways. Both celebrating respective anniversaries — Tinker’s AM1 its 35th, and Kasina its 25th —the partnership will undoubtedly be something special, though specifics on the release remain close to those only involved in the project. What was teased was merely a snapshot; two colorways with floral-emblazoned forefoot Mini Swooshes — not much to go off for now but we’re sure that all will be revealed soon.

A very first look at one of the Kasina x Nike Air Max 1 colorways has landed courtesy of KB Lee. The long-time friend of the brand has revealed that the make-up draws inspiration from the Mandarin Duck, which — due to their habit of mating for life — serves as the model for the wooden ducks that are often given as marriage gifts in Korea. And besides the aforementioned accessory, even the palette itself is reminiscent of the colorful creature, employing the latter’s rich warm and cool tones.

As Mandarin wedding ducks are typically gifted in pairs, it makes sense as to why a second colorway of the Kasina x Nike Air Max 1 was commissioned. Today, it’s seen courtesy of Gaeko of South Korean rap duet Dynamic Duo for the first time. As part of their “Better Together” set, is delivered in more masculine hues, with dark navy, blacks, charcoals, and greys working with whites and sails.

Kasina has taken to Instagram to make the official announcement for their two-piece Nike AIr Max 1 release. Expect to see an initial drops at Kasina on June 4th, followed by a SNKRS release on June 8th.
