In 1972, the Nike Cortez helped the company's running business reach new heights. Over the next 50 years, the design has lived many lives away from running, transcending its performance origins to become one of the most recognizable styles of all-time. Recently, it emerged in a Little Kids-exclusive look that brings wiggle eyes to its Forrest Gump-approved color scheme.
The newly-surfaced pair takes on a classic "Summit White/Hyper Royal/White/Noble Red" color scheme. Leather and suede construction appears across the top-half, allowing for the serrated tooling to revel in its tried-and-proven build. What sets the familiar look apart from past releases, however, is the EastOn velcro strap at the upper eyelets. The modification allows for the youngest members of the family to get in-and-out of their fresh Nikes a lot easier than with traditional laces. Nearby, the tongue label also opts for a tweak, introducing a vibrant pattern that also animates the insole.
Elsewhere, typical Nike branding on the heel is replaced with a set of wiggle eyes (yes, you read that right). Two plastic elements are sewn onto the upper spine, presenting a set of "eyes" on the sneaker. Each pupil boasts swoosh-shaped elements, and move around with every step, stride, and landing.
