Nike Builds the ACG Picklejus for the Toughest Mountain Trails
Nike ACG is pushing deeper into high-performance trail running with the ACG Picklejus, a new big-mountain runner developed for long climbs, technical descents, and constantly changing terrain.
Built with races around Mont Blanc in mind, the Picklejus was designed to solve a familiar problem for ultra-distance runners: getting enough cushioning and protection for long descents without sacrificing efficiency on the way uphill. The model is also the first ACG footwear innovation developed through the Nike Sport Research Lab.
Underfoot sits Nike’s first co-molded, dual-density supercritical foam platform created specifically for trail running. A softer ZoomX core handles cushioning and impact protection, while a firmer perimeter of ZoomX adds stability, durability, and a more supportive feel without relying on a traditional plate.

The outsole introduces GOATEK, ACG’s new proprietary traction system. According to Nike, it delivers 45% more wet traction and 25% greater abrasion resistance than its previous all-terrain outsoles. The platform was tested over five rounds of long-term wear testing, with athletes logging more than 18,000 miles across rugged terrain.
Up top, a trail-specific Flyknit construction uses containment cables to secure the foot while still allowing it to move naturally. Hydrophobic yarns help repel water and limit added weight in wet conditions, while a gaiter-inspired collar is designed to keep trail debris out.

Development stretched across three years and included 10 research studies, 20 prototypes, and testing from more than 100 athletes, with feedback centered around climbing efficiency, downhill protection, stability, and traction.
And then there’s the name. Picklejus references the pickle juice commonly associated with fighting cramps in endurance sports, while ACG also notes that the shoe’s curved rocker profile bears a slight resemblance to a pickle.
The Nike ACG Picklejus is scheduled to release in late 2027 through Nike and select retailers.
