Though it may seem like a fashionable fad, Nike has been forward-thinking in the sustainable footwear department for the better part of two decades. Their mid-00s “Considered” line was one of the first to emphasize sustainably-built sneakers, with initial offerings like the Considered Boot leading to retooled options of classics like the Moawabb. 2006’s Nike Watercatwas just one of those, and hold a special place in the lore of Nike’s strangest footwear offerings ever made. Half Vibram FiveFinger, half sandal, the shoe was spotted everywhere, from the trails to the pool deck to the backyard cookout.
For 2023, Nike is reintroducing the model line with a brand new design — the Nike ACG Watercat+ — giving it a contemporary makeover whilst still harnessing the origins of the early-Century release — and far more wearable in a vast majority of settings. You’ll note a thicker footbed, modern woven upper, and added rear stability, though it keeps the toggle lace system from the 2005 design.
Several colorways of the Nike ACG Watercat+ are expected to release over the Spring/Summer season, starting with the "Court Purple" colorway on April 28.
Stay tuned for release details on each pair, but in the meantime, enjoy official looks at the new model below , and make sure that you keep your eyes glued to our official Twitter account for further updates.
