More 90s than Seinfeld.
The quintessential model from Nike’s mid-90’s turf training category, the Air Barrage is everything a 90s sneaker should be; big, bulky and loaded with maximalist design. From its countless overlays to its oversized midfoot strap — to its period-favored chunky white sole unit — the Barrage really has the 90s summed up in one sneaker. And after almost 25 years after its original 1995 release, Nike is bringing it back in a big way.
While not an OG colorway, this Raptors-themed offering would fit in right at home in its 1995 release, being that the franchise was founded in the same year. The pair sports a retro Raptor-friendly mix of purple and red, paired with black and white across it’s overly complex upper and overlay levels — off of which is just too complicated to even explain — so I’ll just let the imagery do the talking.
On a side note, these bad boys, to the best of my knowledge, also sport the most branding hits in Nike sneaker history — save the recent “Just Do It” and “Overbranding” releases — with not one, not two, but eight Swooshes on each shoe. That’s 16 all up. PLUS, there’s that giant midfoot AIR lettering — sheesh.
As for a release, pairs are already available (and selling out) at select stores overseas, so you can expect a Stateside release to follow over the coming weeks — hopefully in time for that (fingers crossed 🤞🏽) Raptors first title win later this month. For more updates, keep it locked on HOUSE OF HEAT and our Nike Release Dates page.
