Nike’s 15th-anniversary celebration of the annual Doernbecher Freestyle partnership rolls on, with the next retrospective release surfacing today. Following on from yesterday’s retro drop of Jacob Burris’ Air Max 95 from 2015 and yesterday’s re-release on the Free Run 2.
In 2013, patient designer Elijah Diggins shared his story of being diagnosed with Burkitt leukemia on his 13th birthday through his red and black Air Foamposite One Premium. The colorway represents his condition, a form of blood cancer, and is also a nod to one of his favorite basketball teams. The story continues with a graphic on the sock liner that is inspired by his most prized possession – a silver bracelet gifted on his 13th birthday.
Elijah has been in remission from Burkitt leukemia for five years and is considered cured. Participating in Freestyle changed his life forever, signaling that his battle with cancer was over and better times were ahead. Now a college sophomore, he plays baseball and is studying science.
The Nike Air Foamposite One “Doernbecher” will return tomorrow, February 21st at 10 am EST via Nike SNKRS drawing.
2012’s Doernbecher Nike SB Dunk High is expected to be next up, anticipated to return on Thursday 22nd Feb — but that is still to be confirmed. Stay locked into HOUSE OF HEAT for more details!
