This Nike Air Force 1 Low Celebrates the Game of Basketball
Bruce Kilgore designed the Nike Air Force 1 Low in 1983 with one goal: deliver quality performance akin to the high-top that debuted a year earlier. Over the next 40-plus years, the silhouette has enjoyed more time off-the-court, but it continues to remember its origins as a basketball sneaker.
A newly-surfaced pair clad in a "White/Black/Orange Peel" color scheme seems to commemorate the sport. The sneaker's special ensemble sees higher-quality leather and suede construction across the upper. A miniature swoosh appears on the lateral quarter panel, differentiating the AF-1 from standard editions of the pair. The tongue indulges in a different presentation as well, presumably drawing inspiration from basketball in the same fashion that the thematic lace dubrae and footbed graphic do.
Elsewhere, the tried-and-proven sole unit opts for a sunset-reminiscent gradient. The semi-translucent tooling features a pattern underfoot that recalls images of both a basketball net and the steel "cages" in which courts in New York City, for example, often reside.
