Nike Honors Hip-Hop Roots with Special-Edition Air Force 1 Low “Bronx Origins”

Throughout the Air Force 1’s 40th anniversary year, Nike is looking to pay tribute to the cultures and communities that paved the way for the design’s worldwide success. But before we get to Harlem and their Uptown moniker, Nike will look a little further north by paying tribute to the Boogie Down borough’s early part in the sneaker’s success with this special-edition Air Force 1 Low “Bronx Origins”

From the early days of hip-hop and the culture surrounding it, the people of the Bronx borough made the Air Force 1 the go-to shoe. From the D-Boys to the DJs, the sneaker was a sign of doing well. 40 years on, the sneaker may not hold that same weight, but it has reached a level of notoriety like none other. Simple in its execution, the pair serves as a direct nod to hip-hop culture, with references like vinyl-inspired Swooshes, metallic gold dubraes reading “1973” and “1982” denoting hip-hop’s inception and the AF-1’s debut respectively, and record-inspired insole graphics. All of this is served atop a premium white leather construct, with translucent outsoles displaying the titular “Bronx Origins” moniker, and 40th-anniversary tongue tags completing the design.

While an official release date for this all-new Nike Air Force 1 “Bronx Origins” has yet to be revealed, the surfacing of the pair would suggest that a release is imminent. Until more news arrives, take a very first look at the pair here below, and be sure to keep your eyes glued to our official Twitter account for further updates.
