Original PostProviding us with a sense of Eastern culture, Chinatowns across each major city have provided us with a taste of traditional food, customs, art, and culture from across the Pacific. It’s also provided a central hub for immigrants to settle, feel at home, and ease into a new nation with some familiarity. The first settlement in the United States came halfway through the 19th Century when immigrants from China settled into a small area next to North Beach and the Financial District of San Francisco. For Chinese New Year 2023, the 175th anniversary of the settlement, Nike will be honoring the nation’s first-ever Chinese encampment with a celebratory Air Force 1 Low “Lotus Flower”

Prepared in a premium white leather construct, the pair looks to simple-yet-effective embellishments, some bold, some subtle. The more obvious arrives in the form of striking pink-to-white gradient finishes at the Swoosh, midsoles, and gold-trimmed tongue tags, while more subdued touches show some finesse, as is the case for the debossed lotus motifs at the lateral heel — a native to the world’s most populous nation. All of this rests atop an icy outsole tread, with decorative insoles replicating the tongue tag’s special gold foil characters and Swoosh insignia.
