Let’s be honest, Chinese New Year releases of late have missed the mark. Their exclusivity has been cooked, thanks to an Asian market boom, leading to mass production. We just don’t get legendary drops like the Air Jordan 7 “Year of the Rabbit” or 2002’s Air Force 1 “Year of the Horse” — but all of that may be about to change, with the surfacing of a 7000-pair drop of the adventurous Air Max 1 CNY “Longevity” for Chinese New Year 2020.
While rarity plays a key factor in the desirability, the unique use of color, blocking, materials, and prints make these 87’s all-the-more enticing. Acid wash denim, the most subtle material on the upper — provides the pair’s base, peering through at the toe and vamp, before being overlayed by a wide range of printed and debossed patent leathers. Hot punk mudguards arrive with a forefoot mini Swoosh in vibrant yellow and are embellished with debossed Chinese characters all-around. Blue vamp panels come printed with dragon motifs, and are then overlayed by plain peach Swooshes. Heel and collar panels provide further pattern detail, the former a floral print, the latter boasting butterflies, and the pair is complete with black midsoles, volt-yellow Air supports, and an icy-blue translucent outsole.
Take a peep at the Nike Air Max 1 CNY “Longevity” below — and with a 7000-pair production, we’re tipping that these may arrive as a China-exclusive. Of course, we’ll wait for confirmation, but either way, these will be damn hard to get.
