Though it’s going to face an uphill battle against the Cortez and the Air Force 1 celebrations in 2022, the Nike Air Max 1 is celebrating an anniversary of its own. Set to celebrate 35 years of Tinker’s iconic design, Nike will not only deploy a handful of notable collaborations but also recall some classics from the archive — including 2004’s Nike Air Max 1 Crepe “Hemp”, our sources confirm.

Released alongside an accompanying Air Max Burst and Air Max 90 during the early years of the century, the Air Max 1 design was an instant classic. The seldom-seen use of burlap uppers and tongues paired with chocolate suede overlays gave the pair a comfortable, worn-in feel in which the design feels like a familiar item of clothing, a well-loved jacket, or a favorite pair of jeans. It’s was brought to life with a solitary strike of aqua blue at the Swoosh, and the use of a crepe sole capped off a beautifully-constructed sneaker.

Though next year’s release is yet to be sighted, it is expected to arrive in much the same styling, though it may deviate slightly in shape, material, and hue, as has been the case in previously released retros.
