In the early years of this century, Nike was responsible for some of the most incredible sample pairs in the brand’s history. Unfortunately, not many of them made it public — like the Air Jordan 4 “Chutney/Laser”— but recently, we’ve seen some hit retail, at least, a version of them. Last year’s eBay SB Dunks played on the legendary backstory of the pair, while this year’s LeBron 2 “Beast” stays true to its original PE design. But one the we’re truly hoping for is the Nike Air Max 1 “Google”, a sample from 2010 that reappeared from the archives earlier this week via @sbcollector.
Borrowing the conglomerate’s signature colors and placing them in high-gloss leathers around the pair, a comparison to the eBay Dunks shows that these could easily be nicknamed after the online marketplace or the search engine, too. Premium leather liners, insoles, and tongues (the latter embroidered with #7) show the sample’s premium tooling, while inner tags show that the pairs were originally intended for Spring 2010 — a release that never eventuated.
