Though it got nowhere near as much love as we’d like, Tinker Hatfield’s Air Max 1 still enjoyed a solid 35th-anniversary run, including a return of the legendary “Crepe Hemp,” to a handful of collaborative efforts from Patta. But despite the anniversary coming to a close in the coming weeks, the silhouette is held in good stead, with a slew of new colorways already confirmed for the year ahead. One of those released in 2023 is this new Air Max 1 “Neutral Grey” — and it brings with it a little Asian persuasion.

The pair is dripping in premium finishes from toe to tail with an all-white leather construct covered in tonal sail and grey leather and suede. leather tongues and plush liners follow in bright white, with thick-cut leather tongue tags, laces, and midsoles also boasting a blanco set-up. From there, Nike has tacked on a slew of multi-color pops, from royal mini Swooshes, to pink and orange outsoles; Air supports are ruby red, and if you take a closer look, the eyestays alternate between hues, too. Inner tongues feature special Chinese characters that appear to link back to one of Nike’s famous slogans, while spotted insoles and rear brand insignia round out the design — oh, and there are oversized pompom aglets, too.
