Although Nike Air Max technology is no longer exclusive to runners, the cushioning remains synonymous with its titular line of trainers. From Tinker Hatfield’s iconic Air Max 1 in 1987, the annual series has grown in shape and stature — as too has the size of the Air Units present. For this year’s model, we’re getting something bolder again, with the new Nike Air Max 2021 donning a hollowed-out rear cage and bulbous Air support in the rear — and that’s not the least of it!
It’s breathable, the mixed-material upper hosts differing weaves, textures, and tack-stitch overlays, while it’s vamp and tongue features a hot mess of loose overlays and utilitarian pulls. This debut “Venice” colorway manages to calm things down through it’s use of cooling lavender, pastel blue, and pink hues, though it’s still rife with bold selections, namely the black Swooshes, crimson stitchwork, and orange heel pod. The pair is then completed by a simple white forefoot EVA midsole, and black rubber tread underfoot.
