Aside from the transcendent Air Jordan lineage, there’s no other series of sneakers with a more storied past than Nike’s Air Max. Nike knows this, and has never been afraid to celebrate its own efforts across countless commemorative collections throughout the years. Their next series, Evolution of Icons, is doing things a little differently, with each release appearing to follow a short timeline, then embracing elements for classic Air Maxes within the window. The pack’s just-previewed Air Max 90 did this from 1987 thru 1998, but this new Air Max 270 React addition pulls in a much tighter timeline; 1993 through 1995.

A first inspection of the Nike Air Max 270 React “Evolution of Icons” reveals the obvious callouts to the OG Air Max 95 “Neon”, through its uses of layered grey overlays and vibrant eyelets. Dropping back a year to 1994, inspiration from the Air Max2 Light filtered in at the tongue branding and sole unit, the latter featuring the famed orange, scribbled rear Air unit made famous on the OG “Blue Lagoon”. Lastly, the sneaker ushers in elements from the preceding Air Max 93, with semi-translucent rubber Swoosh panels, sharp and sweeping leather toe and mudguard overlays, and black neoprene liners linking back to the OG “Dusty Cactus” Completing the release is the collection’s signature Air Max montage insoles, a special-edition card, and a mashed-up Air Max box that again honors the history of the lineage.

A release date for this upcoming Nike Air Max 270 React “Evolution of Icons” is not known at this stage. However, you should expect to see these hit select stores and Nike.com very soon. Until more news arrives, grab an official look at the pair here below, and be sure to tune into our official Twitter account for further updates.
