Nike Turns the Air Max 90 Into a Boat Shoe for Spring 2027

Nike Sportswear continues to experiment with some of its most recognizable silhouettes, and the Air Max 90 is next in line for an unexpected makeover.

For Spring 2027, Nike is transforming the retro runner into a boat shoe, swapping much of the model’s familiar construction for a more casual, warm-weather setup.

First-look images show the pair dressed almost entirely in brown suede, with a low-cut collar, leather laces and moccasin-style stitching running around the toe. The upper still carries familiar Air Max 90 cues, including the lateral Swoosh and molded panel around the visible Air unit, helping keep the original model recognizable beneath the new construction.

A darker brown sole unit keeps the look tonal, while the softer shape and stitched toe push the Air Max 90 much closer to traditional boat-shoe territory. It’s another example of Nike stretching the silhouette beyond its running roots while keeping its defining tooling intact.

The Nike Air Max 90 Boat Shoe is currently expected to debut during Spring 2027 through Nike and select retailers. Pricing, additional colorways and a firm release date have yet to be announced.
