the mid-90s resurgence is in full effect for the Swoosh, with the Barrage baning’ on, and the looming 25th Anniversary of the Air Max 95 leading the charge. But there’s another sleeper that’s starting to edge its way into the scene, the Nike Air Max 96 Triax.
Its inclusion in this year’s Doernbecher Collectionmeans that the silhouette will be a focal point moving into 2020 — and what better way to co-kick things off than with not one, but two OG retro releases!. The cult classic returns for the first time since its inception 23 years ago in these very Orlando and Bulls color schemes. For those new to the silhouette, it’s got a big Tailwind 4/Penny 1 vibe going for it, although those sneakers arrived years later. It does, however, capture the mid-90s obsession with aggressive overlays, layering, and white leather. Cluny white midsoles with ‘the bubble’ was all the rage, and it wouldn’t be a 90s trainer without a black rubber outsole.
The sneakers that Jerry Seinfeld couldn’t get enough of, the OG “Varsity Royal” and OG “University Red” will make their triumphant return to retailers on December 5th for $130 a pop.
