More often than not, Nike will look introspectively for inspiration, with it’s extensive back catalog of models serving as a basis for a significant proportion of their newest models. One of the biggest culprits is the brand’s Air Max linage — and with the success of the line’s retro models, could you really blame them for looking back to their classics for inspo? Their newest does just that, with the all-new Nike Air Max TW 1 showing a heavy reliance on the brand’s Tuned Air classics; and it’s just appeared in a new black and white color scheme.
Poaching design cues from the Air Max Plus and Tailwind lineages, the new model brings a similar feel to the short-lived AirMax 270 React ENG, as it stacked clunky sole units with wavy detail up top. There’s a clear callout to the Tailwind V at the collar piece, with its acute angle almost replicated one-for-one. Dual Air bubbles in the back are reminiscent of 1996’s Air Tailwind II, while wavy midfoot layers can be traced back to a handful of Air Max Plus and Tailwind models from years past. Above all of the inspiration, there’s a multitude of textiles used, from mesh to ribbed cotton and leathers to translucent sheaths.
