Tobie Hatfield’s legendary Nike Air Presto is coming off the back of a fairly quiet 20th anniversary year, but that can be forgiven considering all of the complications thrown our way in 2020. Nike is seemingly making amends this year, with a slew of simple color-blocked options touching throughout the year. Slowly but surely, the silhouette is inching closer to its vibrant and audacious roots, with each release seemingly more colorful than the last. The next to appear continues that notion, with University Red, Volt, and Tour Yellow served in well-measured doses.
Arriving anchored in red neoprene and atop a fairly reserved black and white sole unit, the pair’s unexpected use of volt-to-gold gradient caging turns an otherwise simple pair into something of a conversation starter. On paper, the combination sounds horrible. In reality, the hues work in juxtaposed perfection, helped along by the aforementioned accents of black and white. Interestingly, the pair is equipped with rockface graphic insoles; it’s meaning unknown.
