With OG colorways like the Photon Dust and the famed Chlorophyll colorways joining a big-name collaboration from Travis Scott, Tinker Hatfields Nike Air Trainer 1’s 35th anniversary has been well celebrated. Now the brand will look back to one of its most revered pairs, with 2003’s Nike Air Trainer 1 “Shima Shima” appearing ahead of an expected release this Fall.
Originally released nearly two decades ago in Japan (and strangely, Canada) alongside an Air Max 1 and Dunk High in 2003, the pair was released at the peak of Nike quality control. Premium suedes seen on this pack, and mainly the Trainer 1, were out of this world, a feat that may not be replicated here, but it does see a one-for-one remake of the colorway. Here, you’ll not the pair is clad from toe to tail in tan and brown suede, the pair works through hues of “Hay” (upper), “Baroque Brown” (Swooshes and guards), and the titular “Taupe” (toe, midfoot, and heel overlays) to create a warm and toasty aura. Similar hues can be found throughout the remainder of the pair, with multi-layered soles of beige, brown, and gum, laces and straps of chocolate, and patterned liners that work in multiple tonal hues. Varsity Red makes a minor appearance at the outsole, tongue, and insole brand marks; the latter two reading “Shima Shima” in Hiragana, translating to Island Island.
A release for the Nike Air Trainer 1 “Shima Shima” is currently unknown, but given both the color palette and the timing of the official images appearing, one would suggest that a release is coming your way this Fall.
