Nike’s Air Max lineage runs very deep. These days, there’s an overwhelming range of Air Max sneakers on the market, with more seemingly popping up every other month. But every single pair in the lineup shared the same DNA, a genesis pair that was developed back in 1987 by one Tinker Hatfield. At the time, the popularity of the sneaker brought a fresh take to running, a trend that was on the decline in the late 80s. The sneaker single-handedly saved Nike’s running division and gave birth to the most successful range of trainers ever, which is still kicking on 33 years later. Now, the newest Air Max sneaker pays its dues to the OG once more, with the Nike Air VaporMax 360 donning the OG duds of Tinker’s finest creation — which also happens to be the Air Max 360’s original colorway, too.
The hybridized sneaker rips it’s upper from 2006’s Air Max 360 and pairs it with Nike bare-ass Air underfoot — and to be honest, it’s much more appealing than the OG, with the VaporMax sole unit looking more at home than the OG’s boxy aesthetic that was on-trend at the time. Aside from the sole unit, there are a few tweaks made to the upper to differentiate itself from the original. There’s a higher rise around the collar, lateral mudguard branding has been removed, and a Swoosh has been added to the lateral ankle. The upper appears to be firmer than the original, too, while the inclusion of in-vogue iridescent Swooshes on the profile pick up this pair for the new decade.
