Fans of the Japanese Gundam series are typically treated to an on-theme sneaker release at least once a year. A few years back we saw a full-scale re-up of the OG Air Max 98, followed by a handful of Air Max options over the proceeding years. Now, halfway through 2021, another has appeared: the Nike Air VaporMax Plus “Gundam”.

Though the series’ protagonist has been reimagined many times, he’s most notably known for his white, red, blue, and yellow build — to which this sneaker fits perfectly. An off-white — almost metallic — finish is applied to the neoprene upper, hamming up the robotic theme. Cage overlays and midsoles are made up of royal blue hues, while vibrant reds work into the tongue, pulls, Swoosh branding, and outsole pods. Finally, the pair’s yellow Vm rear branding hit ties the Gundam theme together/
