Nike Blazer Mid “Chinese Knot” Celebrates Chinese New Year

Nike continues to find new ways to celebrate Chinese New Year — though the practice used on this Nike Blazer Mid “Chinese Knot” is anything but.

The traditional practice of Chinese knotting dates back to the Tang and Song dynasty of 960–1279 CE. It, like many other forms of Chinese art, is recognized the world over, and often serve and memos or gifts from trips across the Pacific. These knots act as good-luck charms given during the Chinese New Year celebration, which is exactly what Nike will be offering us — in Blazer form.

Here, the cross-over red thread is worked into a decorative Swoosh, meeting in the rear in a traditional tie-off. Insoles also show an endless knot motif in celebration of the occasion, decorated in the customary Chinese colors of red and gold. Elsewhere, the pair remains relatively tame, with white leather uppers and neutral suede overlays met with an aged-look nylon tongue and a staple sail midsole wrap. Adding some final flair is a special-edition tongue tag, and a translucent jade green rubber outsole underfoot.

A release date for the Nike Blazer Mid “Chinese Knot” is yet to be revealed, but you should expect to see these hit stores over the next few weeks as we lead into the new Lunar Year.
