Thank god they stuck with the Swoosh, though.
Paying homage to the history of the Swoosh, Nike will be releasing a special three-piece pack of alternate-branded Nike Cortezes, dubbed “Shoe Dog”, inspired by the memoirs of Nike co-founder Phil Knight. It was he and Bill Bowerman who decided on the Nike name change back in the early 70s, but it could have been one of two other options shortlisted by the founders. “Dimension Six” and “Falcon” were names also earmarked by the Beavertown boys before they officially released their game-changing Cortez.
This upcoming Cortez “Shoe Dog” Pack takes all three names, and incorporate them on could-have-been releases, utilizing the alternate names/logos on the lateral in it’s OG red and blue colors. One features Carolyn Davidson’s original slim Swoosh, while the other two sports the Peregrine Falcon and Dimension Six logos that represents two other names considered by Phil Knight and Bill Bowerman. Each pair features an ultra-slim down build that nods to the original Cortez, a sneaker that drew inspiration from OnitsukaTiger Corsair, a shoe that Knight and Bill Bowerman helped create and were still distributing for the Japanese brand under their “Blue Ribbon Sports” label during the early days of Nike
Take in a detailed look at the Nike Cortez “Shoe Dog” Pack below, which is slated for a release on July 24th 2019 at select retailers and Nike.com for $120 a pop.
