Wither strong ties to the region, Nike often finds a little Asian persuasion for its releases, whether that be a direct engagement with the likes of CLOT, to “NAI-KE” releases that honor their own ties with China. Now there is another one on the way, with this Woven Tongued-Nike Dunk High also bringing a touch of Eastern influence.
Here, the upper is rendered entirely in white leathers, though there is a distinct switch between smooth and tumbled; the latter hitting the Swoosh and forefoot overlays, whilst the former dresses the bulk of the sneaker. This simplicity is met with some intriguing alterations, like star-studded toe boxes, Chinese characters that read “Ten” at the lateral heel and insole — perhaps a nod to an anniversary of sorts —, leather liners, Chinese knot-inspired heel stitchwork, as well as the aforementioned woven leather tongue (above) and “Be True to Your” tags that nod the design’s original 1985 campaign (below)
