Over a century ago, a legend was born. Jack Roosevelt Robinson, who became many things to many people, was the first African American to play in Major League Baseball in the modern era. To say he broke barriers was an understatement. What Jackie went through just to play the game he loved showed us all that absolutely nothing can get in the way of our dreams. Each and every annual April 15th, Major League Baseball honors Robinson’s historic achievement, commemorating and honoring the day Jackie made his major league debut. This year marks the 75th anniversary of the barrier-breaking moment, which adds even more weight to the monumental moment. Never to let an opportunity like this slide, Nike will honor the occasion with a special-edition Nike Dunk Low “Jackie Robinson” inspired by the life and career of the great Brooklyn Dodger.

Pictured here in kids sizing — though it’s expected to release for adults, too — the release takes cues from retro Dodgers garb, with cream suede uppers and vibrant royal blue overlays setting the scene. The latter is emblazoned with a collage of Jackie’s famous quotations on equality and equity, save the Swoosh which features a dual-layered suede finish. There’s also a slew of fine details, including forefoot mini Swooshes, baseball-stitch laces, and special 75th-anniversary insignia at the tongue, as well as #42 detailing at the heel, and graphic insoles that mirror the pair’s overlays. All of this sits atop a white and black sole unit, complete with contrast blue stitching.
