Arguably the most anticipated debut signature sneaker of Nike Basketball’s next generation of talent, Ja Morant’s Nike JA 1 has quickly risen to the top of people’s priority list. With DNA similar to the Kobe and Kyrie lines — both of which no longer produce new models — it’s easy to see why. The market-preferred low-cut, responsive Zoom Air cushioning underfoot and lightweight uppers align with the aforementioned signature lines. Add to that Morant’s exciting on-court play, larger-than-life personality, and a low-cost entry point, and you’ve got a bonafide best-seller. This new Nike JA 1 “Midnight” won’t fit the former, though, as it’s special jewel encrusting moves the dial significantly on price to $400 — but we’re tipping that these will still have no problem performing at retail.
Centered around a night-sky “Anthracite” arrangement, the pair’s supporting features are both bold and minimal in nature. Few instances of encrusted jewels shimmering at te Swoosh and 12:AM lace bling, leaving the remainder of the upper set in tonal blacks. Midsoles are much the same before a shot of baby blue is brought in via the pair’s icy and glittery rubber outsoles. These also highlight the midnight mantra underfoot, with Ja’s handwritten “It’s 12 am Somewhere” etched underfoot to complete the design.
