Meek Mill has publicly questioned Nike over the use of “Dreams & Nightmares” on apparel from its upcoming LeBron 23 collection.
The phrase is closely tied to Meek Mill’s 2012 debut album and has remained one of the rapper’s most recognizable cultural markers, especially across sports. According to public filings, Dream Chaser Records, Inc. filed a trademark for “Dreams & Nightmares” on May 18, 2026.
Meek’s comments appear to be directed at a Nike shirt from the LeBron 23 rollout, which uses “Dreams & Nightmares” across the back alongside “About Damn Time” and LeBron-related tour-style dates. The product description from Nike frames the release around LeBron James’ early challenges, championship pursuit, and eventual breakthrough, rather than directly referencing Meek Mill or his album.
The timing of the situation has added another layer to the conversation, as Dream Chaser Records, Inc. officially filed a trademark for “Dreams & Nightmares” on May 18, 2026 — just eight days before Meek Mill publicly reacted to Nike’s LeBron 23 apparel. The filing further reinforces the phrase’s connection to Meek Mill’s music and broader brand identity, which has remained culturally relevant across sports and entertainment for more than a decade.
Still, the wording caught Meek’s attention, with the rapper asking why Nike did not contact him before using the phrase. He also said he initially thought the sneakers were fake before seeing the product live on Nike’s site.
At the time of writing, Nike and LeBron James have not publicly responded to Meek Mill’s comments, and the sneaker and t-shirt are available now on Nike.com.
