Notoriously known for its fixation on innovation, Nike has built its name on the back of game-changing products. From the early Waffle Trainer days to the self-lacing shoes of tomorrow, Nike has been the brand leading the charge. But, despite the contact push forward in technology and sustainability, the brand has always honored its past. This all-new Nike Overbreak does just that by blurring the lines between past and present.

Here, the brand’s newest chunk, the ISPA OverReact outsole, has been attached to an upper inspired by 1979’s Daybreak, though it is heavily retooled for a modern palette. The waffle-soled trainer is mimicked in shape, however the classic nylon and suede uppers are replaced with smooth and rough leathers. But that’s not all that’s been tweaked, with each overlay arriving oversized and in some instances overlapping, all stitched with loose overhang for that deconstructed look that was in-vogue circa 2018. the first pair to surface (via @earlygvng) sports a Mars Yard-like colorway, with sail uppers, tan overlays, and a striking red Swoosh. The aforementioned outsole appears to pay a tribute of sorts to the OG Waffle sole, with a solid black toe cap and further black swatches below.
