Food has long been one of Nike SB’s most reliable sources of inspiration. From early nods to waffles and candy canes, to more recent concepts centered on kebabs, ice cream, and regional staples, the label has consistently translated global cuisine into skate-ready design. That ongoing theme continues with the upcoming Nike SB Dunk Low Pro “Som Tum,” a release inspired by Thailand’s iconic papaya salad.
The Nike SB Dunk Low Pro “Som Tum” takes cues from both the dish itself and the cultural elements surrounding it. The upper draws on traditional handwoven baskets commonly used across Thailand, with textured woven panels at the toe box and midfoot. Surrounding suede overlays arrive in a light Natural Beige, mirroring the craft and earthy tones of the materials that inspired them.
Bright contrast stitching and thick crimson-orange laces add energy to the muted base, echoing the dish's bold flavors. At the heel, a metallic blue panel adds contrast and features Nike branding in Thai, grounding the design in its regional influence.
More detailed storytelling appears behind the tongues. One features embroidered rice inside a bamboo steamer. At the same time, the other showcases papaya, herbs, and chilies in a mortar and pestle—a direct reference to the traditional preparation of Som Tum. Underfoot, a lotus flower graphic is hidden beneath the insole, visible through the Zoom Air unit at the heel. The insoles themselves borrow visual cues from jasmine rice packaging, completing the concept-driven execution.
The Nike SB Dunk Low Pro “Som Tum” is expected to release in Summer 2026. Stay tuned for further updates.
