Nike Sportswear might have its hands full with the 30th anniversary of the Air Max 95, but it continues to revisit the brand's expansive running catalog to help select designs live second, third, and fourth lives. The Air Zoom Spiridon Caged 2 from 2003 is the latest recipient of the division's retro efforts.
Designed by Steven Smith, the silhouette served as a premier racing product for hardcore athletes. Developed to be sock-free-friendly, the Spiridon Caged 2 took the company's innovative Zoom Air cushioning and placed it atop an ultra-breathable upper. Debut colorways indulged in the "Metallic Silver" aesthetics of the time, but follow-up offerings delivered compelling color schemes that've made the transition from sport to fashion seamless.
A newly-surfaced pair offered in Women's sizing harkens back to retro runner styles of the late 1990s and early aughts. A predominantly "White" setup allows for soft "Blue Tint" accents to take over the spotlight. Profile swooshes, pull tabs on the tongue, and elements of the boundary-pushing tooling underfoot indulge in the seasonal hue, which falls in line with pairs like the impending Air Jordan RM "Aluminum" sneaker.
Enjoy official photos of the Spiridon Caged 2 below. Pairs of the "White/Blue Tint" style should land via Nike.com and select retailers by July. Expect the shoe to arrive with a $140 price tag.
Away from the Swoosh empire, Adidas recently unveiled the Taekwondo Mei Ballet, its latest foray into the world of Mary Jane footwear.
