Virgil van Dijk, captain of The Netherlands national football team and Liverpool FC, recently teamed up with Nike and Patta to create special one-off jerseys for participants in the 2026-edition of the Virgil's Legacy Trophy.

Founded in 2025 by Van Dijk, the project is an international U-13 football tournament held in the Netherlands—specifically in Tilburg at Willem II's academy and the King Willem II Stadium. The Dutch footballer chose these locations because the Willem II youth academy was crucial to his development as a footballer: he spent nine years there (2001-10) before moving on to Eredivisie side FC Groningen.

With the limited-edition Nike Football shirt by Patta, Van Dijk wanted to create an object that served as a lasting memory of the second-annual Virgil's Legacy Trophy for all its participants. The design, just like the competition, is rooted in the 35-year-old's story, drawing inspiration from his Surinamese roots. Patta co-founders Edson Sabajo and Guillaume "Gee" Schmidt are also of Surinamese descent, so the collaboration was natural.

The football jersey references traditional pangi cloth and features a unique original pattern created by combining the colors of all U-13 teams participating in the tournament.

Co-branding from all brands involved appear on the shirt, with the Virgil's Legacy Trophy emblem appearing on the left chest and hem.
