"Revolution, not an evolution," proclaimed Deepa Ramprasad, Senior Director, Nike Road Running Footwear, during an intimate media briefing for the Nike Pegasus Plus 2, the brand's next-gen tempo trainer.
The latest silhouette from the Swoosh is a follow-up to the Pegasus Plus, a lightweight, close-to-the-ground training shoe built upon the performance principles laid out by the short-lived Pegasus Turbo franchise from the late 2010s. Ramprasad's words resonate even upon first-glance at the Peg Plus 2 given that the road runner is more similar to the widely-popular Pegasus Premium than the first Peg Plus—a natural result of the design team unlocking speed without sacrifice through the use of Zoom Air and ZoomX foam cushioning.
The Nike Road Running category set out to capture the magic of race day—something its AlphaFly series disrupted the industry with—within a comfortable and capable tempo training shoe. The team is more than confident that it achieved its mission with the Pegasus Plus 2.
According to Ramprasad, the all-new running shoe delivers "at least 18 percent more energy return than the Peg Plus 1 with a lighter-weight system than the Peg 42."

Design Breakdown: Pegasus Plus 2
Although the Pegasus Plus 2 offers a glimpse at the future of tempo training footwear, it features an aesthetic reminiscent of past Nike Pegasus, Vomero, and Structure designs.
A new road runner features a streamlined upper that reveals a mid-foot lockdown band through sleek mesh. This setup provides a stable fit built to support and contain the foot during faster speeds. Lightweight materials ensure ample breathability and work together with a fine-tuned MR10 2.0 last (introduced on the Pegasus 42) to better accommodate the forefoot and toe box.
The comfortable and elevated upper design arguably plays a secondary role to the changes made to the sole unit from the Peg Plus 1. Underfoot, the Pegasus Plus 2 includes:
- A midsole system consisting of an exposed, curved Air Zoom unit & full-length ZoomX foam cushioning
- Modern waffle outsole with innovative flex zones and sharp edges offers improved traction & better ground-feel
Additionally, Nike's Peg Plus 2 weighs approximately 9.34 ounces (265 grams) in a Men's U.S. size 10; a Women's U.S. size 8 weighs around 7.5oz (215g).
The shoe has a 10 millimeter drop.

According to Nike, more than 30 elite athletes across a number of disciplines tested the Pegasus Plus 2.
Cameron Myers, world leader in the 1,500 meter, helped test the shoe and said the following about the model: "I love a run where I’m locked in but still enjoying every step. That’s the feeling I get from this shoe. Easy, fast, smooth. It just flows."
Jacob Kiplimo, the Ugandan long-distance runner who currently holds the world record holder in the half marathon, has been training in the Pegasus Plus 2 ahead of the 2026 Chicago Marathon. Other elite athletes are likely to continue working with the Nike Sport Research Lab (NSRL) to inform whatever comes after the Pegasus Plus.
