This shoe means a lot of things, to a lot of people.
Originally released in 2004, then officially in 2007, the sneakers were created for members of the Roc-A-Fella label, including co-founder Biggs, who you may recall from our recent “Reasonable Doubt” Air Jordan 4 Concept – inspired by Jay-Z’s 1996 album.
The Nike Air Force 1 Roc-A-Fella returned last week as part of the Nike AF100 Collection that debuted at ComplexCon 2017, and now its set for a wider release.
Yes, the only difference to the regular run-of-the-mill AF1 low is the Roc-a-fella branding on the side panel and tongue, but the shoe represents something more. The desire to get a pair of AF1’s back in the 80’s for the Harlem born mogul was enough to fuel the fire to work hard, hustle to afford a pair. It was a status of “hey fuck, we made it”.. His success – tied with this sneaker – was the pinnacle moment that sneakers bridged from sports-specific to street style.
