sacai x Nike Zegamadome Debuts May 9
Chitose Abe has been relatively absent from the sneaker space over the last year. Ahead of May, however, her sacai imprint has unveiled its next collaboration with the Swoosh: a trio of the hybrid Nike Zegamadome.
Abe's work with the Oregon-based institution over the last decade has favored mish-mashing heritage designs to create visually-striking silhouettes that are still familiar to even the most casual Nike fan. The next sacai project, however, combines elements from 1981's Lava Dome hiker with modern cues from the recent ZoomX Zegama trail runner. The result is a layered, fashion-forward design built upon performance-oriented tooling.
Dual-swooshes on the profiles and multiple sets of laces reprise their roles, while a number of panels follow a "deconstructed" aesthetic. In comparison to its muses, the Zegamadome by sacai opts for a low-top build instead of the mid-to-high collar. The same ZoomX foam setup found on models like the StreakFly 2 provide responsive cushioning from mid-foot to heel, while a Vibram outsole delivers industry-leading traction to the project.
