Since 1994, SLAM has remained closely tied to basketball culture, from its magazine covers to its annual Summer Classic at Rucker Park. This August, the publication is extending that relationship to footwear with a new SLAM x Nike Basketball collection inspired by summer basketball in New York City.

The four-shoe lineup includes the Nike G.T. Cut 4, Nike Hyperflight, Nike Sabrina 4, and Nike Ja 4. Each pair incorporates SLAM’s signature orange alongside a custom graffiti graphic built from imagery pulled from the publication’s past pages and covers.

The collection takes inspiration from basketball across New York’s five boroughs, from West 4th Street and Brooklyn courts to Uptown and Queens. The project will culminate around Vol. 8 of the SLAM Summer Classic at Rucker Park, continuing an event that has become a showcase for some of basketball’s top young talent.

Each silhouette takes a slightly different approach to the theme. The Sabrina 4 leans heavily on Mint Foam, with the graffiti treatment worked into the upper and insoles alongside orange accents and SLAM branding on the outsole. The Ja 4 uses a mismatched arrangement, pairing an orange left shoe with a grey right while spreading the custom print across the Swoosh, shank and outsole.

The G.T. Cut 4 splits its personality between an expressive graffiti-covered lateral side and a darker medial side finished in black and Smoke Grey. Meanwhile, the Hyperflight celebrates the model’s 25th anniversary with a glossy orange upper accented by black and reflective grey detailing. SLAM branding appears across the heel, tongue, outsole and insoles.

The Hyperflight was the first pair from the project to surface earlier this year, credits to Nick DePaula, giving an early indication of how heavily the collection would lean into SLAM’s familiar orange palette.

The SLAM x Nike Basketball collection is expected to begin releasing throughout August via Nike.com and select retailers. Additional release details for each model should surface soon.
