Onitsuka Tiger's Iconic MEXICO 66 Is Now a Kitten Heel; Releases Fall 2026
If you've spent any time on social media over the last 18 months, you've likely stumbled upon one particular yellow-and-black low-profile sneaker: the Onitsuka Tiger MEXICO 66™. Built for running ahead of the 1968 Summer Olympics, the silhouette has become a fashion staple for "It girls" across the globe thanks to its classic design and niche-nature relative to similar trendy styles.
As part of its Autumn/Winter 2026 showcase during Milan Fashion Week (Feb. 24 to March 2), Onitsuka Tiger unveiled a MEXICO 66™ Kitten Heel that's sure to join the closets of bold fashion-enthusiasts when pairs finally release by the start of October.
The reimagined sneaker formed part of the storied Japanese brand's "The Aesthetics of Ma" Collection, which speaks to a cultural concept that describes a "meaningful space between two elements, whether in space or in time. It is not absence, but a structuring pause, an active tension.
It expresses a way of dressing intended beyond special occasions or everyday routines. It also embodies a fashion aesthetic that aligns neither with exception nor with habit but exists between the two—shaped by the character and attitude of those who choose and wear the clothes, rather than by occasions," as written in an Instagram post by Onitsuka Tiger about its MFW show.

The sneaker-heel design maintains signature elements from the iconic MEXICO 66™—namely the "T" toe and Onitsuka Tiger Stripes—but presents the blueprint in a refreshing manner. A pointed toe couples with a slingback heel with a fold-over flap and belt to create a kitten heel that aligns with current Women's trends. The hybrid silhouette has surfaced in a number of familiar color schemes that speak to the decades-old heritage behind the experimental style.
The upcoming MEXICO 66™ Kitten Heel isn't the first time Onitsuka Tiger has updated its performance footwear option with feminine touches. Over the last year, the brand has seen success with the MEXICO 66™ TGRS, a shoe that the brand says "offers the sophistication of a pump while providing a soft feel and comfortable fit for the foot." Its flower-cut Onitsuka Tiger Stripes don't appear on the short heel version, but both styles similarly breathe new life into a timeless product.
Enjoy runway shots of the inaugural MEXICO 66™ Kitten Heels ahead. Pairs are expected to release throughout September for a disclosed price.
