PUMA is having a prolonged moment. While it's yet to recapture the magic it enjoyed with Rihanna throughout the 2010s, the German sportswear brand continues to gain market share through a healthy mix of heritage and modern products. Coincidentally enough, Ms. Fenty's partner, A$AP Rocky, has been behind some of the brand's most exciting projects in recent history. Case in point?: The all-new Mostro Disccord.
While reminiscent of his PUMA Mostro 3.D redesign, the impending launch abandons the 3D-printed construction that retails for a hefty $250. Instead, the New York City-native visits the expansive PUMA Archives for his next project's marquee feature: DISC technology.
Launched in the early 1990s, the PUMA DISC system replaced traditional lacing with synthetic wires operated via a circular wheel on our around the tongue. Turning on the mechanism would tighten or loosen the silhouette's fit, delivering an upgraded experience across various performance models. Its appearance on the PUMA Mostro Disccord accomplishes the same while also injecting a more technical look to the already-innovative design.
A$AP Rocky's collaboration marks the first time the three-piece DISC system appears on the PUMA Mostro franchise. Jon Tang, the brand's Lead Sportswear Footwear Designer, assisted in bringing the multi-hyphenate artist's vision to life, but, as suggested by the custom shoe box and Flacko branding on the insoles, the project is firmly the Harlemite's.
The inaugural Mostro Disccord will release in an all 'Black' finish on Thursday, March 27. Platforms like END. have the pair priced at $209. A limited quantity is also expected to launch via PUMA.com and PUMA flagship stores.
