Reebok Unveils Speedshifter, Its First Full-Length Carbon Plated Running Shoe

Today, Reebok might be best known for its basketball and hybrid fitness footwear, but the brand is trying to become a household name within the world of carbon plated running shoes—a space it had neglected for the better part of a decade. The all-new SpeedShifter, however, is looking to change that.

Unveiled ahead of the World Athletics Road Running Championships Copenhagen 26, Reebok SpeedShifter is a giant step forward for the brand, which has had much of its cushioned daily trainers overshadowed by the competition. With its latest innovative offering, the heritage brand aims to empower athletes across long distance runs, tempo sessions, and race days.

"The SpeedShifter lets me lock in and go the distance," said Lydia Oldham, Reebok Athlete and ultra runner, in an official press release. "With a lightweight upper and ultimate bounce, I can conquer an intense training session and hit speed on race day."

Reebok's design team has been able to achieve a propulsive, energy-returning ride thanks to the following tech specs:

• HyperFloat Foam: All-new ATPU foam compound for maximum energy return & plush cushioning
• Full-Length Carbon Plate: Designed for speed & explosive propulsion; 1.2 millimeters thick
• AccelerPlate: Stiffening element between dual density foam layers
• LIGHTWEIGHT UPPER: FastFrame, breathable & minimalist textile construction with 3D print forefoot
• Non-Stop Grip Outsole: Durable, high-abrasion three-piece rubber outsole for optimal grip

The SpeedShifter has an 8mm drop from heel to toe, and it weighs around 209.8 grams (7.4 ounces).

"We’re excited to introduce our next running shoe innovation, the SpeedShifter – designed for athletes to feel their fastest," commented Chris Stone, Product Director at Reebok. "The shoe was engineered to feel propulsive with a full-length carbon plate and all-new lightweight HYPERFLOAT foam."

The carbon-plated Reebok SpeedShifter releases Tuesday, Oct. 20, for $220, through Reebok.com. Two launch colorways—"Red/Blue/White" and "Blue/White"—will be available in Unisex sizing.
