Next up in our Super-Villain Series!
Following on from our well-received Superhero Series of sneaker concepts, we decided it was time to visit the dark side. Leading the charge of our Super-Villan Series was the Sith Lord himself, Darth Maul, which we interpreted on an Air Jordan 8. And for the next installment, we shift from Star Wars to X-Men.
Magneto is a powerful mutant, one of a fictional subspecies of humanity born with superhuman abilities, who can generate and control magnetic fields. Magneto regards mutants as evolutionarily superior to humans and rejects the possibility of peaceful human-mutant coexistence; he initially aimed to conquer the world to enable mutants, whom he refers to as homo superior, to replace humans as the dominant species. He serves as the main adversary of the X-Men.
Our concept couldn’t look past Magneto’s vibrant red outfit — and there was only one choice for the pops of infrared: the Air Jordan 6. The colors proved challenging to balance out, considering Magneto is depicted in many different forms over the years, but his accurate comic representation, with his epic purple cape, served as the basis for the colorway. Vibrant pops of Infrared arrive in the traditional Air Jordan 6 locations, with the addition of contrast stitching to depict strength. Finishing off the design is a semi-translucent white outsole which represents the Villain’s Electromagnetism Manipulation ability, often portrayed as lightning-like white light.
