These Christmas Currys are Designed by Oakland’s Youth

Christmas in the Town.

Under Armour and Steph Curry will be celebrating Christmas will a special edition Curry 6 that was designed by the youth of Oakland.

Footwear customizer and entrepreneur Devlin Braswell, also known as Dee-Nyce, is the founder of Oakland-based boutique Fly Boys Couture Club (FBCC) and knows how a safe space and a mentor can lift a community. Both him and Steph teamed up to create the Curry 6 “Christmas in the Town” by letting the youth from his class drive the design.

They began by brainstorming about symbols of Christmas, which led to the classic image of snow. While it doesn’t snow in the greater Bay Area, the children brought up Lake Tahoe as the closest location they could travel to with their families to enjoy a White Christmas. Wanting to create a Christmas colorway that could be worn year-round, they then honed in for the inspiration of Lake Tahoe, with the White snowcaps of surrounding mountains floating far above the icy Blue lake. This iconic scenery is reflected in the colorway’s pristine White upper and the Blues of the midsole and outsole. The kids also loved the connection to Carolina Blue, knowing Stephen spent his Christmas holidays in North Carolina when he was their age.

The sole of the shoe is adorned with unique snowflakes, representing the personalities of each kid in Dee-Nyce’s class. The insole features the students’ actual drawings of snowflakes, and on the heel of the insole sits a holiday-themed Oakland tree drawn by two of the students. Adorned with lights and basketball ornaments, this Town tree is a fitting tribute to the man who has led the resurgence of Oakland professional basketball.

Look for the UA Curry 6 “Christmas in the Town” to release in limited quantities beginning December 22nd at the SC30 x Oakland pop-up shop in downtown Oakland on 9th Street at Broadway (472 9th Street). Additional pairs will release on December 26th on the UA App at 8 AM ET, followed at 10 AM ET on UA.com and other Under Armour locations. The retail price tag is set at $130 USD.
