The Curious Case of the "adidas Squid"—Formally Known as the Adistar XLG 2.0

adidas and Complex went big for the launch of the adidas Adistar XLG 2.0 “Hi-Res Blue.”

The limited-edition colorway debuted at Family Style Food Festival through “XLG World,” an immersive activation built around the exaggerated proportions and oversized attitude of the Adistar XLG 2.0.

The space turned the shoe’s “extra large” design language into a full experience, with oversized adidas blue shoe boxes, larger-than-life cornhole, interactive games, surprise giveaways, limited-edition merchandise, and other scaled-up details throughout.

The activation also tied into Family Style’s food-focused setting, with Marathon Burgers, Ggiata, and Sunday Gravy featured in partnership with Postmates.

The adidas Adistar XLG 2.0 “Hi-Res Blue” itself arrives in a white, blue, black, and silver mix, pairing mesh paneling with layered overlays, bold Three Stripes branding, and a chunky sole unit that leans into the silhouette’s early-2000s-inspired look.

The adidas Adistar XLG 2.0 “Hi-Res Blue” launched at Family Style by Complex as part of the XLG World experience, and is available now at select retailers such as JD Sports.
