adidas is preparing for the extreme conditions expected at the FIFA World Cup 2026 with the introduction of the all-new CLIMACOOL SYSTEM, a performance-focused cooling setup designed to help players manage heat before and during matches.

Developed specifically for football after originally being created for motorsport athletes, the CLIMACOOL SYSTEM consists of three components: a cooling vest, insulated jacket, and cooling overshoe. Together, the system is designed to reduce body temperature, improve heat tolerance, and help athletes maintain performance in the demanding summer conditions expected across North America.

The cooling vest serves as the centerpiece of the system. Worn over a player's jersey, it contains a specialized frozen gel that gradually thaws during use, cooling the torso, abdomen, and back. The accompanying jacket acts as an insulated shell, trapping cold air around the vest to extend its effectiveness. According to adidas, the combined setup can reduce core body temperature by up to 0.5°C while lowering skin temperature by as much as 13°C.

The system also includes a cooling overshoe designed to be worn directly over football boots. Utilizing a similar gel-based cooling technology, the overshoe can reportedly reduce foot temperature by 2°C in as little as seven minutes, helping combat the swelling and overheating often experienced during matches and training sessions in high temperatures.

With tournament matches set to take place in cities such as Miami, Dallas, and Monterrey, where temperatures are expected to regularly exceed 30°C (86°F), adidas views heat management as a critical performance factor. The brand worked closely with clubs including Arsenal, Juventus, and Manchester United during the development process, gathering feedback from players and medical staff to refine the final product.

The project traces its roots back to technology originally created for the Mercedes-AMG Petronas Formula One Team, where drivers face extreme cockpit temperatures throughout race weekends. Over several years, adidas adapted the concept for football-specific use, incorporating features such as a front-zip vest for quick application before matches and training sessions.

The CLIMACOOL SYSTEM joins adidas' growing lineup of FIFA World Cup 2026 innovations. Alongside the newly unveiled federation kits featuring CLIMACOOL+ materials, the TRIONDA Official Match Ball, and the lightweight F50 Hyperfast Evo boot, the new system underscores the brand's focus on performance ahead of the tournament.

The CLIMACOOL SYSTEM will be made available to all adidas partner federations competing at the FIFA World Cup 2026.
